Hi, I'm Sarah
I grew up in Tucson, AZ and now am raising my kids here. I have several work from home jobs. I play violin in the Civic Orchestra of Tucson. My husband is a local music teacher and singer/director/actor. My priority will always be my family. Having two kids slows down art production quite a bit but they're not going to be little forever and I'm trying to enjoy every bit I can.
I am not the kind of person that craves the spotlight. I would much rather paint the sets or perform in the pit orchestra for a theatrical production than be onstage. It is difficult for me to strike a balance between showcasing my talents so they can be useful and feeling like myself, or at least the kind of person I want to be with more of a quiet confidence.
My purpose in putting my art out there is to help support myself in creating the art and eventually I hope to eventually be able to partner with local organizations to help people in need get the mental health treatment they need. There is also no purpose in creating art if it has nowhere to go. Eventually it becomes clutter and that's not good.
You might as well know I'm very spiritual. If I mention it a lot I'm not saying you have to believe as I do. It is, however a core part of my personality and a strong inspiration source for my creativity so it will come up. If you absolutely adore tacos your friends know it's going to come up in casual conversation. Same with me and spirituality. (For the record, I adore tacos too.) I will not judge you or think less of you if you have a different view on things, even tacos. If we were all the same this world would be very boring.
I use creativity and art to combat depression. When I make something beautiful that brings joy to others it makes me feel fulfilled and happy. Since I have very little art educaton, I feel that most of my work comes as a gift through inspiration. I often discover deeper meaning behind a piece after I finish it as if my Heavenly Father is sending me messages of hope and encouragement to keep me on the right path.
I love trying new things and discovering new techniques and talents. Inspiration often comes simply with what materials are available. Someone gave me a bunch of discarded sheet music that I couldn’t bear to throw away so I started making collage portraits. Our neighborhood has a lot of scorpions so my kids and I catch them and make them into jewelry. I am a firm believer in making the most of your situation and believing in good things to come.
Ether 12:4- "Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with surety hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God."
